Honeydue alternatives

The best Honeydue alternative depends on what you used it for. If you want one view of every account and a full budget, Monarch and YNAB do that better, for a yearly fee. If what you really needed was to split costs and know who owes whom, an app built for couples' shared expenses does that with less setup and no bank connection. Below is why people leave Honeydue and what to try instead, with prices checked in October 2026.

What can replace Honeydue?

Why couples look for an alternative

Honeydue is a free US app for couples' finances. You link both partners' bank accounts and cards, choose what the other person sees, set category limits, and comment on transactions. On the US App Store it averages 4.5 stars from more than ten thousand ratings.

The complaints are recent and consistent:

  • Bank sync. Reviews in 2026 still describe accounts that stop updating and have to be reconnected.
  • Support. Users report slow or missing replies when something breaks.
  • Joint banking. Honeydue's joint account has been closed to new sign-ups since September 2023.
  • No web version, and budgets that stay basic.

What you actually need

Most couples leaving Honeydue want one of two things:

  • A full budget: every account, every category, a plan for each dollar.
  • Shared expenses: who paid what, who owes whom, without a spreadsheet at the end of the month.

These are different jobs. The first needs your bank data; the second doesn't, you just log shared costs when you pay them.

The alternatives

App Built for What's free Paid
Monarch full budget, all accounts one-week trial $14.99 a month or $99.99 a year, both partners
YNAB full budget 34-day trial $14.99 a month or $109 a year, up to 6 people
Goodbudget envelope budget limited envelopes and accounts $10 a month or $80 a year
Splitwise groups and couples a few expenses a day, with ads Pro, $4.99 a month or $49.99 a year per person
DuoWallet couples unlimited expenses, balance, even splits $3.99 a month or $17.99 a year, per couple

Monarch

The closest to what Honeydue promised, done more thoroughly: bank accounts, cards, loans and investments in one place, shared with your partner on one subscription. Budgets, goals and a net worth view are included. The catch is price and setup: $99.99 a year, no free plan, and it takes an evening to connect everything.

YNAB

A budgeting method as much as an app: every dollar gets a job before you spend it. One subscription can be shared with up to six people, so a couple pays once. It's the strongest choice if you want to change how you spend, and the weakest if you just want to see where money went.

Goodbudget

Envelope budgeting you can share between two phones. The free plan is enough to try it with a handful of envelopes; Premium removes the limits. You enter most transactions by hand, which some couples like because it keeps them paying attention.

Splitwise and DuoWallet

These don't do budgets the way Monarch does. Splitwise tracks who owes whom, but its free plan now limits how many expenses you can add each day (more in our Splitwise alternatives).

DuoWallet is the app we build, so read this part with that in mind. It's made for two people: one balance, expenses marked shared or personal (your partner never sees personal ones, not even in totals), and even splits on the free plan. The paid plan adds custom splits like 60/40, category budgets and receipt scanning. It doesn't connect to your bank.

Without one app for everything

Many couples split the job: a joint account for household bills, and each keeps their own for the rest. Before you open one, read the pros and cons of a joint bank account; either of you can usually withdraw the whole balance. The other route is to keep separate accounts and use an expense sharing app for couples to track the balance.

Which one to pick

  • You want every account and a real budget: Monarch, or YNAB if you want the method too.
  • You want a budget without paying much: Goodbudget.
  • You mainly want to split costs fairly: an app built for couples.

Frequently asked questions

Is Honeydue still free?

Yes. Honeydue has no paid plan; it occasionally asks for an optional tip of $1 to $10 a month. Its joint bank account has been closed to new sign-ups since September 2023.

What is the best free alternative to Honeydue?

For a budget, Goodbudget has a free plan with a limited number of envelopes. To split costs and keep a balance between the two of you, apps built for couples have free plans with unlimited expenses.

Is Monarch worth it for couples?

If you want every account in one place, including investments, Monarch is the most complete option, and one subscription covers both of you. It costs $99.99 a year and has no free plan, only a one-week trial.
